Sponsorship to the 2007 National Plow Match Competition in Huber Heights, Ohio

The members of the ECDHA worked hard to raise the money to send Sam Rich to the National Plow Competition in Huber Heights, Ohio on Labor Day Weekend, and it paid off handsomely. Sam, a consistent winner in regional plow matches throughout New England, went to Ohio and competed in three classes: Walking Plow, Sulky Plow, and Three Abreast. He came away with First, Second, and Fourth, respectively, competing against 32 top plowmen and over 100 horses from New York, Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Oklahoma. The Canadians were also there, competing against last year's US champions. Sam, who drove 802 miles each way to compete, was the only representative from Connecticut and New England as a whole.
"I didn't know what to expect when I got out there", says Sam of the event. "I was the only New Englander, playing in someone else's sandbox, so to speak." What he found, however, was a very friendly group of people, although highly competitive and skilled at their craft. "All the Ohio competitors had to go through an elimination trial just to be there. The rest of us were invited to compete. These people were definately on top of their game. They are serious, really serious, about the competition."
